Stock Market
Messrs Abraham and Williams re- j port :— At Pahiatua on - Tuesday sheep j were in moderate supply. An active demand existed throughout. Competi- j tion forced lambs Is head beyond last sales' values. Cattle, in limited num- ! bers, made ruling rates. Sheep — Prime fat wethers, 12s sd ; forward do, 10s ; prime fat ewes, 9s 6d ; others, 8s 3d to 9s ; lambs, 4s 7d to 6s 3d. Cattle—2§year steers, £2 19s ; 18 months steers, 39s 6d ; cows in calf, £2 12s 9d to £2 195 ; tat cows, £4 10s. At Palmerston yesterday a few pens of bullocks made up the entry of cattle. Beef, of moderate quality only, failed to reach owner's fignres. We quote store bullocks in fresh condition and fully grown at j£4 17s to £5. Sheep in average supply. A good many of second rate and inferior sorts yarded. For this class there was but little disposition on the part of buyers to operate though we quitted everything. Good staff, however, was eagerly sought for ; an unsatisfied demand for ewes in lamb remains. Quality considered, lambs remain on a par with last week, though quotations are apparently higher. Store and forward wethers made respectively 10s 4d and 10s lid ; others, 8s 6d to 9s 4d ; superior Lincoln lambs, 8s 4d ; others 6a 6d to 6s 8d ; inferior, 4s 3d : fat ewes, good weights, 9s 6d.
