(Per Press Association). Auckland, July 9. The native who shot his wife dead was named Turou. The women was in the act of fetching water from a creek. The murderer then put his child on his back and, putting the gun to his own chest, fired the weapon. Death was instantaneous, but the child escaped. A dynamite explosion occurred at the Netherton settlement, on the Thames river, whereby a settler named John Adamson, aged about 55 years, was badly mutilated and hia daughter Lanisa, aged about 16 years, was also injured. It in doubtful if Adamson will recover. Wellington, July 9. Archbishop Redwood was a passenger by the 'Frisco mail to-day en route for Rome. The Exhibition Committee endeavored to get the annual band contest held here this year, but as Dunedin refused to give way they have determined to hold the contest on their own account. The competition will be open to all the Australian colonies. The first prize is £100. New Plymouth, This Day. The Petroleum Company's directors have decided to continue boring down to an older formation, and have agreed to a further call. Tho present depth is 1785 feet. The escaped convicts are still at large. On Thursday night a store at Midhurst was broken into and clothing stolen. The offence is supposed to have been done by the escapees.
