The financial statement shows the surplus to be 1.13,000. The Treasurer said (he incidence of taxation was unsatisfactory, as of 700 professional men only 100 were assessed. He proposes to license professional men. He estimated the revenue for the next year at L 786.000, and expenditure L 751,000. The total deficiency of the colony ie L 455,000. This, the Treasurer said, would be reduced by £78,000, and he added that the time was opportune for the conversion of the colony's debt upon more advantageous terms than 3| per cent.
