Stock Market.
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, July 8. There were fait entries in most cases of the Addineton market to day. We quote : — Fat Cattle— Medium yarding of mixed quality. Prime steers met with good competition and brought up to 20s per lOOlbs ; inferior and cow beef, 14s to 16s. Steers, £4 10s to Jb'B ss ; heifers, £5 to £8 ; cows, £2 10s to £1 7s 6d. Dairy Cattle— Poor entry both as to numbers and qnality. Good springers, £6 10s to £8 ; aged and dcubtful animals were neglected at from £3 to £5 10s. Store Cattle— Small entry, and very little business done at auction. Fat Sheep — The yarding was somewhat smaller than of late, bat with a decided improvement in quality. The market for all better classes was extremely brisk. Butchers and export buyers were in keen competition, and for all best sorts a further rise of quite Is per head took place. Prime heavy weight wethers, 18s to 20s 3d ; prime freezing wethers, 15s to 18s ; do mixed sexes, 15s to 17s 6d : do maiden ewes, 14s to 17s; lighter weight, 14s to 15s ; good butchers ewes, J.2s 6d to 15s ; fair do., 10s to 12s ; inferior, 8s to 9s ; merino wethers, 8s to 12s 5d f ewes, 9s 4d to Bs. Fat Lambs (heavy)— Good competition for a fimall entry, which cleared at from 9s 6d to 13s. The new breed of Tamworth pigs made their appearance in the market, and a couple of fine specimens brought 53s each ; half breeds bringing 5Us ; baconers, 30s to 48s ; porkers, 16s to 355 ; good stores, 8s to 15s ; smaller sorts, 4s to 6s.
Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co.'s Wanganui stock report (telegraphed last night to the New Zealand Times) is as follows : — We had a full yard of sheep at Wanganui. The bidding was brisk, and good prices were realised. We sold out all that were penned. Pigs were without quotable change. Only a few cattle came forward. Cattle— Milch caws, JE4 2s 6d to £6 ; weaners, 19s to 255. SheepFat wethers, 10s 8d ; stores, 8d 3d to 9s lOd ; ewes in lamb, 9s to 9s 9d ; dry ewes, 6s 6d to 7s ; hoggets, 7s Id ; lambs 5s 8d to 6a 7d ; fat ewes, 8s 4d. Pigs— Baconers, 18s to 20s ; porkers, 13s to 16s 6d ; small pigs, 3s 6d.
