(Per Press Association.) London June 30. The first innings of the Australians closed for 225 runs, the other chief acores were — Gregory 24, Graham 67, Eady 18, Kelly (not out) 12. McKibbin Hirst took 5 wickets for 79, Wainwright 3 for 32. When the stumps were drawn for the day, Yorkshire had lost 5 wickets for 112 runs, of which Brown compiled 32, Jackson 49, Denton 24, while Wainwright was not out with 11. Gregory having sustained an injmy, was unable to field. Gregory received a nasty blow in ihe mouth while batting, and had to retire, and on resuming his place at the wicket was out almost directly. Graham and Eady knocked up 65 runs in 50 minutes, the former showing all his old form. He was baiting 85 minutes, and hit ten fours. ' McKibben took Denton and Moorbouse with successiye balls. The weather to-day was sbow«y, and the wicket was against the batsmen. The county team were disposed of for a total of 145. McKibbin was unplayable to day, and took seven wickets in all. The Australians have made 81 in their second innings without the loss of a wicket.
Sydney, Juno 30. Even the heavy rain and intense cold failed to dampen interest in the test match. After the Marylebone collapse, they were prepared for almost anything, but with the honour of Australia at stake, 53 on a perfect wicket was a sorrier surrender than even the least sanguine considered possible. Kalgoorlie, West Anstralio, crystallised the universal disappointment into a cablegram to Mnsgrove, worded : " For the honor of Australia, knock off and brine: them home. — (Signed) Austbalia."
