Birmingham Notes.
[from our own correspondent.] Taking a ride along Perry's line I notice a good deal of formation going on. My progress is slow. After a time I come l;o a camp, where I am introduced to Mr Allan, of Kiwitea, the contractor. This gentleman informs me that he is doing 62 chains and that he will soon be finished. When this piece of road is metalled it will be a great boon to a few settlers, bat it will be years before ibis road connects with the road cocaing oat at Perry's. A few days previous I was along the road known as Mcßeth's line, and come across Mr F. Mcßetb, who informs me that he has lived 16 years near this road. If the short piece of road was made to connect with Edward St, they conld get to Birmingham in twenty minutes to half an hour, whereas now they mast joarney eight miles. lam pleased to say oar representative at the Council is doing his best to get this piece of work finished. There is so little to be done now, aid the benefit wonld be so great to the settlers who have paid rates so long. I feel sure that if the Councillors understood tho case clearly there would be no delay in doing justice to a large number of people. This road, or the want of it, very seriously affects the business people ol ! thi8 place, aa Well' fig~tbe- settlers. A meeting of those interested in the selection of a site for (the Church of England at Birmingham was held on Saturday evening lastT Three sites were under offer. On Ifhe votes being taken it was found that Mr Murphy'! site bad the largest number of Totes, so that at some date thisfaody Will erect a Church of their ownl. At present services are now held reWlarly in the Town Hall. V* The late flood in the Oroua did a considerable amount of damage to Bailey's mill by shifting tbe tramway that carries the timber over the river. It will take two weeks to put things in order again. , At the football match on Saturday Walter Harlow injured his iknee and, consequently, has been confined to bis bed pretty well ever since. <
