Proposal to Tax Unused Land along a Line of Railway.
(Per Press Association.) Melbourne, June 22. The report of the Railway Standing Committee contains a recommendation that where lines are not found to pay, an acreage tax shall be levied on all land allowed to lie idle which would otherwise furnish freight to the line. A great compliment is paid by the Committee to Mr Eddy's management of the New South Wales Railways.
