The Meat Export Trade.

The, Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company, in their meat report dated 24th April, says :-r ■■- New Zealand Mutton.r-The Fifesbire has arrived with 11,045 South Island sheep. TheTokomaru has still great part of her Urge cargo on board. The Tongariro finished, her discharge last TOek.much of her cargo being more or less damaged, 972 carcases and 206 parts being condemned by the Sanitory Officer. The Tekoa finished on 22nd ; her cargo was also in indifferent condition, 360 carcases and 154 parts .being condemned. The presence on the market of these a*tna*«a « hee P- following on a pro. yioas shipment ex Ruahine, has had a most prejudicial effect, not only cansing a fair in prices, bus harming the trade by tht damaged meat going intp consumption. Trade bas been bad, and even the very fqif prices accepted have not inertaeed the output to any great extent. Best Canterbury's are selling at about BJdperlb, a few make &d per pound more, others again sell Jrom 2£d to 3d per lb; prime sheep continue scarce. Dudedips, if bright and fresh make 2sd to 21d per lb, but the bulk offering ars stale and off colour, ana sell at 2|d per lb, sometime? less. North Island sheep have •old Irbni 2f d to 2§d per lb. Ne# ; Zealand Lamb.— The Fifesbire br6ugnt;2i|67l. This trade has shared in the -Aommon depression, demand has not beenso brisk or the numbers moved so large. Prices remain much as they were from' 4|d to 4^d per lb, depending on con. dition and quality.
