Government is appointing a Commission of coal mining and shipping experts to enquire into the cause of the fires which have been so frequent in coal ships recently. The ballot of Newcastle miners resulted in the rejection of the delegates' lecommendation to accept the owners' proposals, and the adoption of an amendment, demanding that a higher price be charged for coal, and the hewing rate be increased. ■ This Day.
