Rongotea Notes.
[I'ROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Mr J. G. Wilson, M.H.R., gave a very iuteresting and instructive address to the Rongotea Debating Society, and a number of friends on Monday evening. His subject was " The progress of civilisation in Britain." He dealt witb it historically, and touched upon its progress in the laws of health, its municipal and moral progress. He then dealt with the Referendum and old age pensions. A number of questions were asked and answered. During the evening Miss Revels, Mr Sanson, and Mr J. A'Court gave songs. Votes of thanks were passed all round as usual. The Primitive Methodists held a quarterly meeting on Monday, when representatives from all parts of the circuit were present. After the meeting was ended, and the representatives and friends had partaken of tea presided over by the young ladies of the congregation, they adjourned to the Chnrch for the public meeting. The Rev. Mr Cocker occupied the chair. Tbe meeting was addressed by Mr J. C. Thompson on the •• Liquor traffic," Mr Gould on the " Coming conference and how to make it a success," and Mr Lucas on " Christian perfection." Mr Baker gave a recitation ■* Keep up your pluck," and Miss D. Jarvis a recitation " A little girl's complaint." Votes of thanks to all hands brought the meeting to a close, The Primitive Methodists proposed to build a new Church to cost 4-160, £50 of whicii is already promised.
