Licensing Committees.

(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, June 1. At a meeting of the City Licensing Committee all applications for renewals and transfers were granted, a word or two of caution being given to one or two applicants. The Bench refused to grant any extensions beyond 10 o'clock. Consideration of applications, for wholesale licenses was deferred. Holders of bottle licenses applied for renewals. The Bench after hearing counsel, retired and on returning announced that they had come to the conclusion tliey had no power to grant the applications, which were therefore refused. It was intimated that the matter would be brought betore the Supreme Court in tbe form of a mandamus. Christchurch, June 1. The Christchurch Licensing Committee to day granted renewals in all cases save three. Two were adjourned to allow the improvements being carried out, and the third was adjourned to enable notice to be served on tbe licensee, to whom the police objected as not being a suitable person to hold a license. Napier; June 1. At the Licensing Committee to-day there was an application to license the Explanade Hotel. There were formerly two hotels at Taradale within the Napier Licensing district. One was closed and brought to Napier and is being re-erected with large additions on tke Marine Parade. The committee was asked to grant the license.
