Wellington Supreme Court Sittings.

o (Per Press Association.) Wellington, This Day. The Criminal sittings of the Supreme Court opened this morning. The Ohief Justice made no observations to the Grand Jury. Peter Micklesen, on a charge of forgery at Wellington ; James Young alias Saunders, horse stealing at Levin, pleaded guilty and were remanded for sentence. Mrs Annie Brown, charged with peforming an illegal operation, was bronght up for sentence. Mr Jellicoe asked His Honor to postpone the sentence till nexfc sitting of the Court as the prisoner was appealing to the Privy Council against the decision of the Court of Appeal in her case, and the papers were already on their way Home. The Chief Justice said he never heard of such an application before. Mr Jellicoe submitted the circumstances of this case were special aud novel, and the question of postponing the sentence was entirely within His Honor's discretion. The Chief Justice said he could nofc see sufficient reason for postponing the sentence. Addressing the prisoner, His Honor said the offence of which she was fonnd guilty involved a sentence of imprisonment for life, but he did not intend to treat her with sneh seventy. Her husband, who was now sprving a very long sentence on the sume charge, could not have carried on his nefarious trade wilhout her help and assistance, but there was this mitigation, t!r,t she wns living with hor husband, and might., therefore, be said to be under his control. His Honor inflicted a sentence of two years in the Wellington gaol.
