The above five totalled 96 out of 114 scored in the innings. Jones bowled splendidly, taking eight wickets for 39 ; Eady took one for 14. The Australians in their first innings lost four wickets for 108. The chief scores were : — Donnan, b Rawlin 59 Darling, c Mold b Pougher 41 May 19. Johns made his first appearance behind the wickets at Crystal Palace, and performed with credit. Donnan and Darling, by free and stylish batting, raised the score to 96. Rawlin was then put on, and met with considerable snecess for a time. Among his victims were Giffen, Trott, and Gregory. However he made a lengthened stand, and hit with such vigor that at the call of time only^six wickets were down for 264, the little Sydney crack being still in with 97 to his name.
