The Bey Price-Hughes condemns the defection of the Irish members on the the Voluntary Schools Bill, which he styles a decisive object showing the Irish Romanist party is incapable of givng justice to English Dissenters. The Liberals never proposed Home Rule without providing ample religious justice for Ulster. The P. and O. Company have declared a dividend of 5 per cent on preferred and 7 per cent on deferred shares. There were 60,000 tenderers for four millions of stock offered by the Pneumatic Tyre Co., the total amount subscribed being nine millions. Baron Hirsch's estate was proved at sixteen millions in addition to five millions worth of property devoted to the improvement of the condition of Jews. The Baroness receives eight millions. The Baron's death was caused by the operation of tracheotomy for supposed cancer. Ottawa, May 17. The French Canadians in Montreal had their indignation aroused by a reference to M. Laurier in course of a speech by Mr Tupper, and in order to prevent him continuing got up a fight with the Premier's supporters. ' Paris, May 16. A society is being formed hero for the purpose of insisting that legislative ac tion be taken in regard to the declining population of France. The Czar has forwarded a message of condolence to President Faure in connection with the recent train accident in Algiers, whereby a number of soldiers wero killed or iv jured. He describes the men " as brave brothers in arms." President Faure will meet the Empress Dagmar, mother of the Czar, at Paguey, on the German frontier. Washington, May 16. The House of Assembly has passed a recommendation in favor of inter-national gold and silver coinage. The Langley-Smithsonian Institute has invented a machine for flying half a mile at a height of 100 feet. Madrid, May 17. Fifty thousand reinforcements will be sent to Cuba in the autumn. Berlin, May 17. The German Government is enforcing tho law against Socialists, and 47 members of political societies have been put on their trial.
