The Agricultural and Pastoral Association Committee has decided not to agree to the proposal of the Wellington Society of only allowing exhibits pronounced by veterinaries to be free from hereditary disease to compete. It was pointed out that at preaent a veterinary was always in attendance to give information, if required, and the Wellington Society's proposal, it was contended, would involve delay. Napier, May 11. The Hospital Board to-day passed a resolution exonerating the honorary medical staff from certain charges made by tbe Evening News. At the first meeting of the season of the Philosophical Society tbe Rev. W. Colenso advocated tbe establishment of a Free Public Library and Museum. He offered a site free, and towards the estimated cost of .£SOOO offered an aggregate of £2000 on the condition that the whole amount was raised by December 31st. A man named Bedinfield has been arrested at Makotuku on a curious charge. He wrote a letter to a settler's daughter, threatening bodily violence if she did not supply him with money or tobacco, which was to be left at a certain place. Christchurch, May 11. The Minister of Lands addresses a meeting at Rangiora to-morrow, and one at Kaiapoi on Wednesday. Ashburton, May 11. A very satisfactory land sale was held on Saturday, over 1000 acres of Mr Clunees' farm, Methven, being sold at auction. Tbe property, divided into 10 farms, fetched an average of £13 per acre.
