Sluggish River Drainage Board.
— ♦ The ordinary meeting of the above was held yesterday at Palmerston. Present — Messrs J. Beale (in the chair), McMillan and Morrison. Correspondence was read as follows:— From Messrs Gny and Haggifc, accepting the appointment of consulting solicitors to the Board. From Mr J. Donald asking the Board to replace the bridges moved off Nb. 1 drain. — To be considered. From Mr H. Honour, objecting to the rate being struck on a uniform basis. — The Secretary was instructed to inform Mr Honour that the rate was to cover general expenses. From Messrs Wilton Bros, stating they would hold the Board responsible for any damage which might be done to their property in consequence of the erection of a stop bank to* the old outlet of the main drain.— lt was resolved to inform Messrs Wilton Bros, that the Board was not responsible for the old ontlet ; and that it was being filled up. On the motion of Mr McMillan, seconded by Mr Morrison, it was resolved that all outstanding rates not paid by the 21st instant be sued for. The tenders of Mathias and Walsh for drain cleaning contracts No. 11, 12, 18, and 14, were accepted &% rates varying from Is 3d to 2s per chain. On the motion of Mr Beale, seconded by Mr McMillan, the general rate of Id in the £ was confirmed. — Standard.
