The Wool Market.
(Per Press Association.) London, April 29. Tfao wool sales opened to-day with a general decline of 5 per cent. At the sales 11,160 bales of medium selected were offered. There was a full attendance, but no American buyers were present. The decline is most acute in medium merinos, which are receiving entire foreign support, fine crossbreds have declined fully 5 per cent, and coarse from par to 5 per cent. The following cablegram has been received by the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. : — The sales opened at an average decline of about 5 per cent, on last sale's closing rates, except coarse crossbred, for which the market is unchanged. The attendance of both Home and foreign buyers is good, and the competition by them is fairly active. The total quantity available, including wool held over from last series, is 376,000 bales, 101,000 bales of which have been forwarded to the manufacturing districts direct. Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. have received the following wool market cablegram from their London house, Messrs Sanderson, Murray, and Co.'s, dated 29th April :— Good attendance of buyers. Merino and fine cross-bred prices have declined 5 per cent. ; coarse crossbred market is weaker.
