Feilding Debating Society.

The usual fortnightly meeting Of the Feilding Debating Society was held in the Borough Council Chambers last evening, when there was a fair attendance, Tbe Rev A. S. Innes Jones presiding. Messrs R. P. Walsh and J. B. Beckley wero elected members. The subject debated was " Which exercises the greater influence — the statesman or poet?" The question was discussed by Messrs J. G. Cobbe, T. Watson, F. Y. Lethbridge, W. Franklin-Browne, J. Wood, S. Andrew, J. Greenwood and Rev A. Innes Jones, aud a vote resulted in favor of the poet. It was decided that the question to be debated at the next meeting, on May 12th, should be " That Imperial Federation is practicable aud desirable," Mr J. H. Stevens moving in tbe affirmative and Mr J. Wood opposing. At the following meeting, May 26th, the subject for debate will be " That land Nationalisation would promote the happiness and prosperity of mankind."
