GOVERNMENT " TIT BITS."
[We wish it to be distinctly understood that we are not responsible for the opinions of our correspondents.] i
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Kindly allow roe space to call j attention to a very unfair proceeding | on the part ot the one who chooses the sub-enumerators for the census collecting. 1 think it an act of gross iojustto many needy but competent men that the billeis should be given to xren who are the owners of large properties and professedly well-to-do. Our public, bodies go to the expense of advertising and courting competition where hard work and small pay is the prize, but in a case of this kind where the pay is easily earned and sure, it is given to men who do not need it and ought to be above being public servants. This i» not a job when a man of the " right political color " gets the bun, for the collector around these stormy regions is a professed toff Conservative. Hoping to hear who is the generous giver of these "tit-bits," I am, etc., Anti (Jraball. Pikihikura, April 12, IS9G.
