VIATTERS POLITICAL.-ADVANCES TO SETTLERS ACT. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — The newly-appointed Minister ! or Public Works, in his speech at the Palmerston banquet, is reported to lave said that only £500,000 has been ent to settlers, and that a very large sroportion of the rest — £1,000,000 — s invested in Government securities [ would like to know whether the Govjrnraent securities are Treasury bills ?
