(Per Press Association.) Melbourne, March 26. A very clever forgery of notes of the Union Bank has been discovered. The ] ! paper used is identical to that of the gen- i nine notes. I This Day. It is reported to the police an unknown boat containing 4 men was seen to sink off Port Henry's. Search is being wade. This Day. The Treasury has received from the executors of the late Sir Samuel Wilson a cheque for £41,634, probate duty. Sydney, March 26. The Hettan colliery, Newcastle, has been thrown idle, owing to the difficulty with the wheelers over the dismissal of one of their nnruber for ill treating a horse. The steamer Croydon is being fitted up for a scientific expedition to the Great Barrier Reef, off the Queensland Coast, on behalf of the Museum of Comparative Zoology, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Professor Agpasiz will have charge of the expedition. It is expected the explorations will occupy several months. There is a little more hopeful feeling about the threatened strike. A number of the proprietors show more inclination to agree with the proposal of a conference.
