Fatal Boat Accident.

HEROIC CONDUCT OF A CHIEF OFFICER. (Per Press Association.) Melbourne, This Day. A boat belonging to the steamer Lady Loch was landing stores at Cape Otway in pharge of thief officer Griffiths with five seamen anid two passengers on pqard, when she was struck by a heavy roller and sank. Griffiths, after securing a box to hold on to, surrendered it to a passenger. He managed to reach a reef, but was washed off and drowned. Two seamen, Mathiespn and Monk, werp also, drowned. The others were yescp.ed \pith great difficulty by a boat frpm shpre. 44* were m «ch bruised.
