This news should tend to harden the prices for sheep, which of late have been somewhat discouraging, and induce farmers to give more attention to winter feeding, the neglect of which has in the past compelled owners to rush their surplus stock into the sales at the very time the demand is at its lowest. We confidently expect that the demand for wool will be greater in the season of 1896-7 than for 1895-6, and growers should be prepared to reap the coming harvest. There are good pros- j pects for the agriculturists and dairy farmers, because the rates now obtainable for their produce are also improving in a marked degree. Altogether the outlook is pleasing, although the occasion may not be so gratifying to those " peace at any price " folks, who disapprove of i ibe firm sbanA taken by the British when threatened by other warlike nations.
