The weather is gloriously fine and there was a, large attendance, including the Governor and suite, The Champion Stakes was ruu at a clinking pace throughout, beating Portsea's Australian Cup record by a quarter of a second. Quiver traversed the last mile and a half in 2ruin 3y.lsec and the last six furlongs in lmin Ih.^scc, Wallaco actually improving thereon. The latter went down to the- post much more quietly for Holmes than ho usually did, but still he exhibited roguish proclivities. Auraria was done with at two miles. Following are the results : — Hurdles, 2 miles — Regent 1, Gratiano 2, Biugara 3. Won easily by three lengths. Time, 3min 54sec. Maiden Stakes, 1 mile — O'Trigger 1, The Enchanter 2, Ucnester 3. A beautiful start was effected, Auraria taking a slight lead from Wallace. The same order was maintained round the back, Wallace running more kindly for Holmes. At a mile and a half Quiver led Wallace by two lengths, whilst a half-mile further on Preston had dispossessed Auraria of third place. Sweeping down to the home turn W T allace had decreased the gap between him and the leader. Quiver led into the straight, bnt loud shouts greeted a great spurt by Wallace. Just as lie appeared to be overhauling her, he fell back again, but on Holmes calling on the colt for the final effort, he responded splendidly, catching Quiver on the post and making a dead heat of it, with Preston twelve lengths away third, Auraria a bad last.
