«. (Per Press Association). Wellington, Feb. 29. For criminal sittings of the Supreme Court there are 21 charges against 16 prisoners. The chief charges are attempted murder, perjury, and bigamy. In the Divorce Court a decree absolute was granted in the local case Santi v. Santi. The voting for the members of the Conciliation Board resulted as follows : — D. P. Fisher 10, H. C. Jones 9, H. Walker 8, A. Ward 7. The first two were elected. The above was nominated by the workers. The employers did not send in any names. The ketch Reliance, 65 tons, which left for Nelson this afternoon, found the northerly gale too strong for her and put back. In beating up the harbour she missed stays and got ashore at Hind Point, near the lighthouse and began to break up at once. She is not expected to hold together till the morning. The crew got safely ashore. The folio wiug will represent the Petone Rifle Club at the Federal Rifle Associations gathering at Oamaru: — W. H. Ballinger, C. Hollard, B. R. Bunny, W. A. Grace, W. Randell, and N. F. Willoughby. The first named five are picked to fire for the club in the teams match. The Royal Humane Society of Australasia has decided to award a bronze medal to Harold Von DadeLszen and an honary certificathe to Percy Kinnisburgh. These are the two lads who took part in saving the girl from drowning at Island Bay on the 6th January and bravely attempted the rescue of a second one. The Premier has informed Mr John Stevens, M.H.R., that the plans for the Makohine Viaduct are now complete. The Cabinet decided yesterday to call for tenders immediately for the construeion of the work. Daxevirke, This Day. The Hawke's Bay Timber Co.'a sawmill at Tahoraiti, with the manager's house and employes' dwelling, were destroyed by fire this morniug, caused by the spreading of bush iires. Insurances —Plant, £500 ; stock, £100 (Norwich Union). There are other insurances, but the particulars are not known. The company are heavy losqrs. Wanganui, Feb. 28. A large meeting of draught players was held last night with reference to the championship tournamnet. Everything is arranged for, and a great success is anticipated.
