Band of Hope Tea and Concert.

The Band of Hope held a very sue* cessful tea meeting and concert in the Volunteer Hall last evening. Notwithstanding the counter attractions, about 300 persons (mostly children) sat down to tea and partook of the abundant supply of cakes and dainties of all descriptions provided on the tables, which were attended to by Mr and Mrs J. C. Thompson and a host of helpers, who all worked hard. At the conclusion of the tea meeting the tables were removed and the seats re-arranged for the concert. A platform had been erected at the end of the hall for the use of singers and speakers. There was a good attendance, the ball being well filled. On the motion of the Rev. J. Cocker, Mr Greenwood was voted to the chair, and shortly before 8 o'clock the musical part cf the proceedings began. After a short introductory address from the chairman the following programme was gone through : — Song, " There's nothing like a Refreshing breeze," Mr J. Greenwood ; song, "Rothsay Bay," Mrs Reader, acd for an encore " The Meeting of the Waters " ; song, " Anchored," Mr Carty ; address on the objects of the Band of Hope by the Rev J Cocker ; song, " The Four Maries," Miss A. Fry, the last verse being repeated as an encote ; song, " Off to Philadelphia," Mr H. W. Gie : sen, and "Marching" as an encore; song, " In Old Madrid?' Miss Saxon, the last verse being repeated as an encore: trio, Messrs Woollams and Greenwood (flutes), and Miss Greenwood (piano) ; song, " Dear Heart," Miss Giesen ; piaaoforte solo, Miss Greenwood ; address on the progress of temperance organisation, Mrs Reader's singing was a treat iq listen to and we hope to hear her often. A vote of thanks was accorded to the ladies and gentlemen who provided the tea and. assisted at the conpert, and the speqial thanks of the committee are due. to Mr J. Darragh for his kindness in lending all the crockery for the tea free of charge. The concert was concluded by those present singing " God save the Queen."
