The Wellington Shooting Case.
"iesterday morning's Times says: — On euquiry at the Hospital shortly after 3 o'clock this morning, we learned that Mr Norbury had spent a fairly good night, and had slept a little. Both tho accused are Swiss, aud came to this colouy four or five years ago, at which time Locker had means, but lost his money iv speculations. He is 35 years of age, slight build, oft 6iu iv height, wears spectacles, and appears to be of a mild and inoffensive disposition. He gives his religion as Protestant. Mrs Locker is 27 years of age, just over sft in height, of light build, rather more determined looking than her husband. Both she and hor husband appeared to be unmoved, even when brought face to face with the injured man during the time his depositions were being taken, and on returning to the police station Mrs Locker had her evening meal as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened. The victim of the crime, Mr George Norbury, is a native of Yorkshire, but was brought up in Scotland, and first came the colouy about twenty years ago. Four years later he returned to the Old Country with the intention of staying there, but within a few months he again returned New Zealand and started a glass and cbinp.ware business in Cuba street, Wellington. Subsequently he started as a brick and tile manufacturer, and a little over eight, years ago went into partnership with Mr Trevor as providers of builders' material, both the partners engaging iv building operations apart from the partnership. On the completion of Locker's warehouse something like a year ago the partnership was dissolved, since which time Mr Norbury has been engaged as a i3owor pot manQfactnror m Tarauaki street. Mr Norbury was fur some time connected with the Primitive Methodist Church, Oourtuuay Pkice, but for the last year has been a member of the. 1 Trinity Wesleyan Church, Ncwtown. He was a prominent member of the Mount Cook School Committee, of which he has been chairman. Ho has a wife aud au adopted daughter, and is about 47 years of age.
(Per Press Association.! Wellington. This Day. Mr Wardoll, S.M., refused bail this morning to Karl Locher, who is accused with his wife of tho attempted murder of George Norbury. Inspector Pender stated he was prepared to identify Locher with thtt act of his wife.
