Mr Sawers, Government Dairy expert, bas written to the Directors of the Apiti Cheese Factory Company, that the 116 cases of cheese shipped by tbe s.s. Ruahine, has been classed as first grade, which must be highly gratifying to all interested in tbe factory, while at tbe same time it speaks volumes in favor of Apiti as a good district for dairy farming. Kops Ale, the new Temperance beverage, is a remarkable production. Made from the best Kentish hops, and in colour and taste as like Bass' ale as it is possible to be, it is, nevertheless, absolutely uon-iutoxicating. It is proved by official analysis to be without a particle of alcohol, yet it is an unrivalled appetiser and stimulant. Mr T. Watson has it on sale. On Monday, February 10th, a section containing 2 acres, 31*88 perches, being subdivisions 4 and 8 of section 12 A, subdivision G of the. Manchester Block, will be sold by auction in tbe Assembly Rooms, Feilding. This section is situate in a central position in a good district, being at the corner ofthe FeildingAshurst and Taonui roads, opposite the Colyton Hotel, and contains a very convenient* sbop suitable for carrying on a country trade. A well known bishop tells a story of a clerk at a village church who deliberately took half a crown out of the plate as he brought it up to the communion table, and slipped it into his pocket. "I saw him take it," eaid the bishop, " and I intended to charge him with it at the end of the service, but carried away by the service, forgot all about it. .Next day I remembered the circumstances, and spoke about it. Oh, sir," said tbe clerk, " neyer you worry about that. On Saturday last a deputation consisting of Messrs McNaught and Furguson (Wanganui), J. E. Baltbrop (Feilding), Harrison and Wood (Palmerston North), Hugbes, Gamble and Remington (Marton), waited on tbe Rangitikei Council re bye-laws as to bicycle-riding on the roads, and asking tbe Council to rescind tbe same as being to a large extent prohibitive to cyclists. Mr R. E. Beckett who introduced the deputation, suggested tbat if the words, "if required " were inserted in the 3 clauses of the bye-laws bearing on the matter, it would meet the question as was evidently intended when those clauses in the bye-laws were framed.! After several Councillors had spoken on tbe matter, the chairman stated that if the Cycling Clubs sbould submit any modification of the bye-laws in force the Council would be quite willing to consider tbe same. It was decided that the matter be left jn abeyance as suggested by the cbair-ipg-n.
