The Manawatu Mounted Rifles will go into camp at Hokowhitu on Thursday next. The Manchester Rifles will be paraded on Thursday evening. A full attendance is requested. Additions are made to the entries for Messes Abraham and Williams stock sale at Palmerston North. Captain Edwin wired at noon to-day : — N.W. to W. and S. gale with rain after 10 hours from now, glass rise. Mr F. Flavall has been appointed Registrar of Dogs for the Borough of Feilding and the tax is payable at his private residence, Hobson gtreet. The Manager of the Colonists Land and Loan Corporation, Mr Edwd. Giesen, advertises the cheapest money in the market. See advertisement over leader. The Legislature is being urged to place these disease-breeding grounds under the control of the law. Tbe bi-tri-cycle, tbe latest novelty, rosembles a safety, only the front wheel is duplicated. These two front wheels are placed about 6in apart on independent axles. Tbe merits claimed for the bi-tri-cycle are immunity from slipping, increased safety, and more speed with less fatigue. Applications for letters patent have been lodged during the past week by Mr W R. Haselden, Patent Agent, Wellington, on behalf ot Mr H. C. Jensen, of Stanway, Manawatu, for an improved stump-jack ; and Mr G. F. Hawkins, of Palmerston North, for a composite syllabic typewriter. — Post. The following paragraph is from the Wairoa Guardian : — We hear that a Frasertown young lady is going to sue a Palmerston North resident for breach of promise of marriage. During the hearing of the case some startling revelations may be expected. The case will be heard at the next sitting of the Supreme Court at Gisborne. An Act was passed in England in 1750 to tbe effect tbat at parties " ladies must < not get drunk on any pretext whatever, * and gentlemen not before nine o'clock." '.
