BOROUGH MATTERS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I have beard complaints from many persons, but as none of them have written to your paper — the only means we bave of obtaining redress, I do so myself. Here is tbe whole of Manchescbester Street square and all round it with stones lying on the surface, some of which are as big as a man's hand, fit to break horses legs. The poor animals are seen stumbling every few seconds, carts jump up and down, damaging wheels and loosening tires. I need not mention the damage done to boots and shoes of men, women, and children. All this j time the surface men are picking up grass roots in tbe streets. Why does J not tbe Borough Council let these men go J round the town with horse and dray, a couple of rakes, and sbovel the stones in, or rake them aside to be hammered to pieces '? I met a man to-day with the front leg of his horse bound up, having being injured by a fall. He pointed down Manchester Street and asked, " Is that not enough to break any horse's legs ? While lamat it I will also ask tbe Council bow long they are going to let tbe Warwick Street bridge be a wreck in tbe middle of the town ? A stranger who was here at the wreck Ipst year (soon a year ago) meeting me tbe other day said " Feilding must be a poor place if it cannot afford to splice that little bridge." I showed him our ( splendid Council Buildings. I am, etc., G. Martin. Feilding, January 10th, 1896.
