«> Messrs Abraham and Williams report : — We opened the business of the New Year with an unreserved clearing sale of stock on the Carnarvon estate, in which we had the assistance and cooperation of Messrs Gorton and Son, Bulls. A large concourse of people assembled from all parts of this and outlying districts. Commenting upon the stock and its quality, the public verdict pronounced it below the standard of former days and put it down as fair average quality. It was a useful lot however. Bidding opened rather slowly at first, but improved afterwards though at no time was there any particular activity ; horses excepted. The following lots and prices were realised :— Sheep— 2ooo full-mouthed ewes, in lots, made 3s 8d to 3s lOd ; 1961 full-mouthed ewes, in one line, 5s 2d ; 460 fnll-raonth-ed ewes, in lots, 4s to 4s 2d ; 1000 2tooth ewes, in one line, 6s 9d ; 1018 4 -tooth ewes, in one line, 7s 2d ; 1296 6-tooth ewes, in one line, 6s 8d ; 145 fat ewes, in one line, 6s 9d ; 300 laalf-bred maiden ewes, 4-tooth, 5s lid ; 1000 lambs in wool, 2s 8d ; 2800 lambs in wool, in lots, 4s 9d to ss ; 1436 lambs in wool, in lots, 4s to 4s 3d ; 750 lambs in wool, in lots, Is 6d to 2s ; 700 lambs in wool, in one line, Is 5d ; 614 lambs in wool, in one line, Is 6d. Cattle— sß yearlings and weaners made 39s 6d ; 79 yearlings and weaners, 31s 6d, 82 cows, with oalves at foot, L 3 8s 6d ; 42 fat cows, L 4 8s 6d ; 44 empty cows, L 3 8s 6d. Horses— Stylish dog-cart horse, " The Drummer," L 23 ; draughts from Ll3 to L2l ; lighter up to L 8 10s ; hacks, L 3 }Qs to L 5. The implements generally m buyers' favour. At Palmerston yesterday cattle mustered in full numbers. Prices maintained the values existing befove Christmas. A total clearance was made. Sheep, in short supply, were in moderate demand. We quote :— Sheep— 2-tooth owes, 7s ; 2-tooth wethers, 7s 3d to 7s 9d ; 4-tooth maiden owes, 7s 4d ; ewes, mixed ages, 6s 2d\ Cattle — Fat cows, L49s ; fat bullocks, light weights, L 6 10s ; others, L 6 ; 3-year bullocks, L 4 5s to L 4 17s 2J-year steers, L 4 6s ; 2 year do, £3 6s ; 18-months, L 2 12s 6d ; weaners, £1 ; weaners and yearlings, 86s ; 20-mouth heifers L 2; empty heifers, L 3 Is ; 18---months heifers, L 2 2s 6d ; springing heifers, LB 18s. Pigs— Weaners, 5s to Hs.
