DISQUALIFICATION OF A CYCLIST. (Per Press Association.) Melbourne, Jan. 7. At Glenville eleven buildings were destroyed, the damage being estimated at £'6000. Several people were burned in fighting the flames, but none were seriously injured. This Day. The insolvency record for the year shows the debts to have been £3,311,000 compared with £3,483,000 for preceding year ; assets, £1,606,000 as against £1,---625,000. Perth, January 7. The Black Flag Company recently paid the Central Exploration Conlpany the sum of £525,000 for the purchase of four leases of a total area of sixty-six acres in the Black Flag district The stamp duty on the transfer amounted to L 2625. • Sydney, Jan. 7. The League of Wheelmen has disqualified Megson, the well-known New South Wales rider, from racing for six months, for disrespect shown to the committee. The disqualification holds good throughout Australia. The Colonial Secretary has written to the Governments of the various colonies, excepting those of Western Australia and New Zealand, inviting a conference of Commandants to meet here on the 20th instant to decide upon a form of rifle for the colonies represented at the conference. The special session of Parliament to deal with the Federation Enabling Bill has opened. Brisbane, This Day The Gold returns for the year show a j decrease of 52,000 ozs as compared with the Previous year. An important discovery of coal was made in Swanback colliery, Ipswich. The seam is a continuance of the Aberdare seam and its importance to the colony cannot be over estimated. This day. The population return for the colony for last year was 157,456 being an increase of 1478.
