A Stowaway's Experience.
A terrible experience bef el a man who stowed away at Melbourne. He crept into a steam boiler stowed at the bottom of the hold, with three bottles of water and some bread, under the assumption that the passage took four days. Some 500 tons of cargo were stowed over the boiler, and the man spent twelve days in Cimmerian darkness, without knowledge of how the time progressed. His only companions were rats, and when rescued he was only able to gasp " Water." He ultimately recovered.
