Gale in Wellington.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, January 5. One of the strongest blows experienced here for some time took place between 8 o'clock last night and midnight. A strong nor'wester set in and gradually increased until last night, when it blew with hurricane force. At midnight there were heavy peals of .thunder with vivid lightning and a downpour of rain. Subsequently the weather began to improve and to-day there was a fresh nor'wester with bright sun. Very little damage has been done. In some places trees were uprooted and fences levelled.
