New Year's Day.
The attractions for to-morrow— the beginning of the year 1896 — which promises to be fine, are of a varied nature. MANAWATU CYCLING OLUll's RACES will naturally be a centre of attraction. The meeting, the inaugural races of the club, will be the first gathering held on the Sports' Association ground, Fitzher-bert-street. An admirable programme of ten races, for all of which large nominations have been received, is the bill of fare provided. THE FRIENDLY SOCIETIES WCNIC at Westoe will be another attraction. Everything has been done by the committee to make the picnic an enjoyable one. The train leaves Feilding at 9.30 and reaches Westoe at 10.:>0, the fares being 2s for adults and Is for children. THE RAXGITIKEI HACKS will bo held at Bulls on New Year's Day, and the following one, and it iv sure to attract a large crowd of ' ; spjirts." THE APITI SPOTITS are sure to attract a large number from the adjacent country settlements and a' number are expected to go up ircm Feildiag.
