Threatened War in the Transvaal.
A GENERAL CALL TO ARMS. WOMEN AND CHILDREN LEAVING .JOHANNESBURG. {Per Press Association.^ Pketokia, December 30. Owing to threatened trouble, General Joubert has been summoned to Pretoria. The ladies and children are leaving Rand, and business is dwindling. It is reported that the miners are arming. President Kruger, in an interview, said he was prepared for any emergency. The Government contract for lighting Pretoria by electricity contains a clause preventing the purchase of the necessary plant from English firms. The exodus of women and children from Johannesburg is increasing. The price of food is rising. The National Union discloses no definite offensive movement. The burghers have been ordered to be ready for active service. The Mercantile Association, which is being formed to protect property, is applying to the Government for arms. London, December 80. A portion of tho German newspapers are hostile to Great Britain, and urge the German Government to preserve the integrity of the Transvaal if the Dutch Government remains neutral.
