Supposed Accidental Poisoning.

A SENSATIONAL AFFAIR. AVhat appears to have been a case of accidental poi.souinrj occurred iv Feilding on Christmas Day, from which Mr and Mrs George H. Saywell and several guests have been suffering ever since, j On Christmas Day Mrs Saywell took ill I from some mysterious cause and by tho I evening of Boxing Day Mr Saywell, his brother Frederick. Mr C. Beard, Mr P. F.dlin, Mr and Mrs Huun, and Aliua Saywell, a little girl about six years old, the adopted daughter of Mr and Mrs Saywell, were all suffering in various degrees how diarrhoea, vomiting, and pains in the stomach. Miss Poad and Miss Franklin -Browne were also guests at Mr Saywcll's on Christmas Day but the former only suffered a headache, while the latter, who ate and drank sparingly of the foods and liquids did not suffer any ill effects. On Friday morning Dr Johnston was called in and attended the sufferors, but beyond the knowledge that the cause was from irritant poisoning, the sudden illness remains a mystery. Mr Huun took his wife to Palmerston, where they were treated by a doctor, who states the cause is arsenic poisoning. All those uuder Dr Johnston's care suffered severely last night, Mr G. Saywell being the worst of all, but this morning Mrs Saywell is much better, while Mr Fred. Saywell is improving rapidly and Mr Beard is still suffer' ug. The little girl is still unwell although not very bad. This morning Dr Johnston called in Dr SorJcy, wifch wjiom ho held a consultation. We understand the danger is not over, and the results may yet be serious. The affafr has caused quite a stir in Feilding and much sympathy is felt for the sufferers. Dr Johasbon is analysing some of the foods and liquids partaken ot by the victims, but at present be is not prepared to allocate the blame to any particular cause.
