Australian Catastrophes.

(Per Press Association.) M elbourne, December 26. Five men working in the Sunbeam and Twilight tn'me at Mathinna (Tasmania) were overcome hy foul air when ascending a ladder. Foreman John Cheshire fell 25ft, broke his neck and blocked the manhole. The centre of the shaft had to be cue away to rescue the others, who are now recovering. H. F. Prime, farmer, of Inkerrnan, placed a loaded gun on a stripper, with a view of shooting wild turkeys. The jolting of the machine caused the gun to fall and it went off. The charge entered Prime's cheat, and he died almost immediately.
