NEW ZEALAND TELEGRAMS.
(Per Press Association). Wanganui, Dec. 26. A stabbing affray occurred on Christmas Eve between two sailors of the St. Kilda. The men had a light, and one of them, Arthur Larsen, was stabbed in the left side. He is now in the hospital. The other man, Peter Kouee, has been arrested, and remanded till Monday. The N.Z. Chess Association Congress met to-day. Mr Sexton won the first game against Dr Hatherly (English opening). Mi Pearse defeated Mr Remington, Mr Pleasants defeated Mr Meldrum, and Mr Barnes defeated Mr Lelievre. The other games are unfinished and are all fairly equal. Crptain Gregor, well-known in the colony, died suddenly last night at Kai Zwi. Wellington, Deer. 26. Magnificent weather which was again experienced for the holidays was taken fnll advantage of by excursionists and picnicers. Auckland, This Day. The inquest on the body of the man burned to death at Coromandel resulted in an open verdict. The victim is believed to have been Mackerell of Auckland. Napieb, This Day Alfred Pilcher, aged 5 years, whilst bathing at Clive, got beyond his depth and was drowned. An infant daughter of Albert Fail of Clive, was choked to death on Chrißtmas night through drinking milk, which was coagulated, blocking the windpipe. _^__^
