New Zealand Bare Birds.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, Deer. 21. A correspondent, signing himself Nat ure writes to the Post that " Baron Rothschild, who is a great collector, has recently received a large caso of birds from a New Zealand collector, among which there are 90 specimens of the stitch bird. These 90 specimens, whioh are probably the last of their race, were obtained from Little Barrier Island, and allthe expense of purchasing the Island from the natives and appointing a caretaker to prevent the birds being destroyed have been ineffectual. These rare birds fetch a high price , in Europe and several other kinds have also been exterminated recently by 'he : collectors, so that unless Government .takes immediate steps to prevent it many • others will soon share their fate.
