N.S.W. v. OTAGO.
(Per Press Association). Dunedin, Dec. 21. The cricket match N.S.W. v. Otago, was concluded to-day, N.S.W. winning by six wickets. The local team in their second innings scored 121, a feature of it being patient play by Rains for 32. Baker made 15, Downes 23 and Fisber 19. Clarke was again unfortunate. Galloway was iv fine form with the ball, taking 6 wickets for 42 ; Hume took 3 for 14 and Noonan 1 for 36. Requiring 132 runs to win N.S.W. commenced their second innings. Though they were fairly confident, it was evident that careful play was required. Colcroft, the Capt., set example, as he was fuUy half an hour at the wickets with ouly one to his credit. At ten the first wicket fell, and when at 20 Walford, who distinguished himself in the Canterbury match, was got rid of. Hopes of Otago's supporters were in the ascendant. Careful play saw 49 up beforo the next wicket fell. Poidevin and Wade, who were now together, pntthe result beyond doabfc, for 118 was on the board when Poidevin retired with a prettily compiled 48. Noonan and Wade carried it on to 132, and N.S.W. won by 6 wickets, Wade having made 40. Fisher took 3 wickets for 42 aad Hope 1 for 16 SOME TALL SCORING. [Per Press Association.] Sydney, This Day. In the cricket match Paddington v. Bnrwood. the former put up the remarkable score of 726 for five wickets. No less thau five batsmen passed the century— McKenzie 155, A. Bannerman 122, Noble 113, Alderson (retired) 113, Kelly (not out) 106.
