The Governor, in presenting the iMilitary prizes, paid a high tribute to MajorGeneral Hutton's work of military reorganisation. He said he saw no. reason why military federation should wait lor the larger federation. As to the larger federation it surprised him to find two provinces like New South Wales and Victoria, whose people are not only neighbors but brothers, separated by menacing tariffs and hostile railway gauges on political and arbitrary lines. Taking the official returns as a basis, The Sydney Morning Herald estimates that Australia will require to import about 8,650,000 bushels of wheat, New South Wales will require 4,000,000.
