Charge of Wife Poisoning.
(Per* Press Association^. Christchurch, This Day. At the Police Court to-day Alexes Mcnand, charged with having administered poison to his wife Alice Menand with intent to injure her, the evidence for the prosecution was to the effect that some time ago Mrs Menand became seriously ill, and her case was diagnosed as Adison's disease. She was sent to the hospital where the rapidity of her re. covery occasioned some surprise, After she left the hospital she again became ill, and her medical attendant and other doctors who saw her, formed the opinion that she was suffering from lead poison* ing, A bottle of medicine taken from her bedroom was found on analysis to contain arsenic, though no arsenic had been prescribed. In cross examination Mrs Menaml said that she had taken all the medicine prescribed for her and that a bottle found in her bedroom had been in the house for some years. Sh,e also said, that she was in the habit of d.rinkjng liquor made by her hpsband, in a leaden basin, and that he had warned her no\ to take too much of ii\ Accused, who reserved, hjs defenpp, was committed for trial, bail being re-. fused.
