" J.M." maybe right in what he says, but I think Gkrat is not Gaelic, bat a word smuggled into th« language. At any rate it is not fonnd in the Old World poems of Ossian— where * such passages as these are addressed to captives, " Fear not, the sword of Fingal ' was never stained with the blood of the vanquished." If • J.M." looks through a Maori Bible he will find English words in the text, for instance, Prophet is rendered Paripiti. If translated, the word, perhaps, should have been Tohunga instead. Paripiti will ever be a nniaance and stumbling block to Natives who wish to understand what they read. I am, etc., < ' Bkttkb WoBDt -
