The Dairy Produce Trade.
(Per Press Association.) Melbousne, This Day. The Perishable Products Committee has made a number of recommendations. They suggest the appointment of a dairy i council to supervise the dairies and butter factories, and the adoption of the New Zealand Dairies Act in regard to the treatment of milk. With respect to the export of butter, they consider that better inspection is necessary so as to insure proper cleanliness, uniformity and high quality of all exports. Under the present system the Government brand on boxes is useless. London buyers are guided by quality. Inspection in Melbourne should be superseded by inspection at the factories, and the butter sent direct to the ship, and the cost of cool storage would thus be saved. The committee strongly opposes the system of consigning through agents. Some agents change the brands and otherwise manipulate produce bo as to suit their own ends, not those of the producers. There is also evidence of attempts in other ways to act detrimentally to the interests of factories. The committee suggests that, the factories should take steps to control the produce until it reaches the bands of the consumers, and also recommends the appointment of a (government analyst who shall devote hiswhple attention to theexamina
