The Waipawa Mail has been informed that the wool clip throughout the (Hawke's Bay) district is not only in excellent condition, but shows a great increase in weight on last year's clip. A meeting of ratepayers of the Pohangina Small Farm Association No. 2., was held at the County Council office on Saturday afternoon, to consider proposals to raise a loan of £4668. The proposals were approved and it was decided that a poll be taken on January 3rd, 1896. Mr H. J. Hayns presided. Mr Ellery Gilbert is now visiting Feilding and desires us to state that he " has not sold out " but intends to maintain the connection he has had in this district for so many years, against all comers. Mr Gilbert has been in bad I health for a month or two which has j prevented him making his usual tour. j In our report of the meeting relative ! to the development of the Mahakipawa gold mine, we stated that " 10s a foot had to be paid for every foot containing gold." This was an error, and should have read " 10s per month would have to be paid on every 100 feet on the line of gold, after gold had been struck " •which is a vast difference. The Manawatu aud West Coast A. and P. Association have decided to purchase about eight acres of laud adjoining the show ground to give increased conveniences to exhibitors and the public. They have, also, decided to hold the Autumn show on March 25th, when .£l5O will be given away in prizes for general exhibits and £20 for flowers, fruit and vegetables. In according a welcome at Horsham, several local land owners offered General Booth two hundred and fifty acres of good freehold land in the district on condition that three-quarters were intensely cultivated and that fodder or industrial products which give a return within twelve months be grown thereon and the best skill and machinery available used. The General has three months to consider the offer. The new woman advances. A lady in Sydney aged 21 is under arrest for marrying a young man under age without obtaining his father's consent. A meeting of those interested in the formation of a Mounted Infantry Corps was held in the Cheltenham Hall on Friday evening last, when about twenty gave in their names as willing to join. Messrs Banks, T. Tyerman, and Stewart were appointed a sub-committee to canvas for members in the Kiwitea and Messrs Davis and Anderson in the Waituna district. The movement is being taken up enthusiastically and there is a probability of a strong corps being formed. The Pohangina County Council have decided to request the Postal Department to alter the name of the post office now known as " Palmers " to " Ranmai." They also intend asking that a money order office be opened in Pohangina and that the Upper Pohangioa mail service be carried up the river as far as the Salisbury block, and at the termination of the present mail- carrying contract arrangement be made for a bi-weekly service to the same place. The polo match between the Manawatu and Hawke's Bay Clubs, played on Mr A. W. Sherman's ground, Rangitikei Line, on Saturday afternoon, resulted in an easy victory for the local representatives by 10 goals to 2. The teams were : - Hawke's Bay — Messrs H. Russel, A. Russell, D. B. Hill, B. Chambers ; Manawatu Messrs A. S. Baker, W. Lloyd, A. Podevin and A. W. Skerman. In the first three minutes Hawke's Bay scored a goal, but within five minutes Manawatu equalised matters, and thence afterwards the visitI ors were outclassed, goals being scored in | rapid succession by Manawatu. The game was a fast one throughout, and the ponies of both teams were an exceptionally good lot. No less than six goals were hit by Mr A. S. Baker.
