SIGNIFICANT.

It will be seen in our cablegrams of this morning that the British troops have been directed to assist the Italians in their trouble with Abyssinia, if the latter's position is endangered. Now, it has been authoratively asserted and as strongly denied, that the French have been either directly or indirectly assisting the Abyssinians in their war — or defence of territory — against the Italians, and no matter what is the true state of the case, we shall not be in the least surprised if this action of England is not interpreted to mean a blow at France.
