Victorian Village Settlements.
(Per Press Association.^ 7 Melboubne, Dec. 9. From a statement made by the Minister of Lands it is evident that the village settlements are not the success they were to be. He said thai np bo date the total number of settlers placed on Crown Lands, under the Settlements Act, were 8638, but many of these were starved out owing to unfavorable conditions ; particularly the unsuitability of the land. Still, 2485 settlers were in possession of holdings. The total monetary assistance granted to settlers by the State amounted to J848,000._
