Pohangina Notes.

(From our own correspondent.) Shearing has been in, fall -swing here , for the last few days and heavy loads, have already been despatched to Wei* , lington. One dray with five ' bales of ' wool on it was overturned into the Pohangina River at the Ferry road ford. Everything was pretty wellsoaked. The driver and the horses had a bad tune of it, and it was some time before they were released from their very uncoin- ' . fortable position. Nothing serions, however, happened, but the wool will have have to be unpacked and dried before it is fit for the market. We want a bridge ' there very badly. The last flood in the Pohangina river. * did a considerable amount of daxnage to fences and carried away portions of its banks. Consequently several settlers had to remove their buildings on to the higher land— this may be truly designated " very hard lines." Fruit is not so plentiful this season as' usual, probably owing to the high winds which nave prevailed at " setting time" but there are some really good crops of potatoes -which will more than oompenv sate for the deficiency in the fruit crop. Building, fencing, and other improvements continue to mark the progress of settlement here. $ The cricketers social and dance here on Friday evening last was a great suocess. As is usual, with our people, several willing hands undertook the work of decorating the Hall, and very nicely , they did it with flowers and evergreens. Some 40 couples were present and a very enjoyable night was spent.. The following is the team selected to play against Birmingham 'in the Cttp match next Saturday at Colyton :-G. Adsett, T. Rimmer, E. Pierard, A. J. McLeavey, H. Grieve, F. Roberts, H. Roberts, S. Roberts, R. Browne, ,H. Adsett, J. Boberts. Ratepayers Association and Conner Council meet next Saturday, the former in the hall at 8 p.m. and the latter in their chambers at 11 a.my
