Feilding School Committee.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held last evening. Present— Messrs H. Woisfold (nhairman), A. W* _ Parker (secretary), W. Carthew, W. a. Shearer, B. J. Thompson, J. Taylor, and J. Gould. The minutes of the previous ordinary and special meetings were road and confirmed. Accounts amounting to £8 18b 6d were passed for payment. The Head Master reported— Mr Stewart had arrived yesterday and began Iris duties as first assistant master. The - attendance for the past month was 293*5, last week (except Monday, which was wet), it averaged 820, the highest on record. He recommended that a resolution be passed asking all the churches to have their picnics daring the Christmas holidays. Preparations were being made for a concert' at the breaking up of the school. The Chairman reported that the proceeds of the tableaux entertainment in , aid of the School Prize Fund 'amounted to £12 15s. - - Proposed by Mr Haybittle, seconded by Mr Thompson, That the Secretary be instructed to write to ' Mr Carty thanking him and all those who took part in the recent entertainment for the very handsome amount of £12 15 ft which has been placed to the credit of the children's prize fund— Carried. The Chairman drew attention to the manner in which the assistant master was appointed and sent to the Feilding school without the Committee being notified that his nomination was accepted by the Board. - He thought the Committee had been treated in a di§contteom manner. Proposed by Mr Carthew, seconded liy Mr Gould, That a gentleman .hrfving arrived in Feilding and presented to the Head Master of the Feilding school as Mr Stewart, this Committee, haying had no intimation from the Board in refer- ' ence to the matter, request the Board to inform the Committee whether the Mr Stewart nominated. by this Committee has been appointed or not.— Carried. The matter of presentation of prizes to the children was considered at length The Chairman reported having inter* . viewed the Head Master with reference ' to his arranging a concert for the prise fund. The Head Master was quite taken - up with the idea; and expressed himself as willing to do all he possibly could to assist, suggesting that the concert should take place before the breaking up for the holidays, and that the prizes be given on the evening of the concert. Mr Carthew said he had spoken- to the Head Master who disapproved of the system of giving prizes to all children who were successful in standards, con- ; sidering they should be given Jor tflnlity , and attendance. •: ■ - It was resolved, on the of Mr Taylor/ seconded by Mr Gould, -That Messrs Thompson, Shearer, Haybtttle and the chairman be a sub-oommittee to confer with the head master re purohas* ing and awarding, prizes to- the .'children. Resolved, That Messrs Carthew and Thompson be a visiting committee foe th» ensuing month. ' ' Mr Parker stated that Lieut. Barltrop of the Manchester Bides had , offered to • instruct the children in physkgl drill from 8.30 to 9a m. fires of charge. Consideration of the matter was deferred. The committee then adjourned.
